Roof Repair Where Addition Meets Main Structure of Home

Submitted by: Beth J Markesan, WI Saturday, June 22, 2013>

I require something to be built where an addition meets an existing home. The addition roof line was built approximately 7 inches higher than the existing roof and I have had leaking issues between the walls. It has been recommended that I have a cricket built to better attach the addition to the existing home to resolve the problem.

  1. This would probably be a full day job for a handyman. It would not be surprising to see the total charge run anywhere from $600 – $1500 to do the work. You haven’t stated the length the cricket so it is impossible to give an estimate.

It is important to remember that the worker you hire to do the repair should carry insurance and be licensed. If the roofing repair fails and your home is damaged by water leakage you will not have a licensing board to support your claim.

Secondly, if they don’t have insurance- don’t let them up on your roof! If they fall and get hurt, it’s on you.

What would a fair price be?
